Bed bugs are a huge problem in Jefferson City. Recently, an outbreak of them was even reported in not just one public housing, but two of them.
Residents said that the latest outbreak was none like they experienced before. And to avoid becoming the critters’ next victims, tenants like Sandy Meier and Debra Hardman are becoming extra preventive, taking various steps not to come in contact with those crawlies.
The Dulle Tower and the Hamilton Tower were the complexes determined to be bed bug infested. They are owned by The Housing Authority. And according to Allen Pollock, Executive Director of the agency, both have had problems with the pesky insects for a number of years in the past.
To solve the current issue with the critters, Pollock said that they treat one or two problem areas every week. He elaborated that when treating one unit, it is followed by four others, which are the ones on its either side, below and above it. Heat is used in the main unit to kill the bugs, whereas in the other four, a chemical is sprayed.
