Cleaning Granite Countertops Secrets

Discover how to correctly clean granite countertops as well as marble counters. You will learn the do's and don'ts of what professional marble care companies know so you can do your own marble countertop cleaning.

Assuming that your countertop is made either out of true or mercantile granite, green marble or soapstone or a hone-finished stone. If you have polished marble or polished travertine, then there's not much that can be done to maintain their high glossy finish, other than... well not really use the counter top at all. But there is one thing to remember:

The Cleaning Granite Countertops, Floors, Walls, Rule.

Don't even think about using a glass cleaner or water with a little dish soap. These are common mistakes made by most people, but very problematic. Glass cleaners may turn out to be too harsh to the stone and the sealer (if their has been a marble granite sealer applied).

While water and your common dish soap can leave an unsanitary and digusting film that will up and become problematic to remove.

Try this for example... wash your hands under water wish dish soap, then rinse the soap off and notice how long and how much water it takes to rinse off entirely and properly. To get the exact same result rinsing your countertops, you would have to rinse the entirely with a garden hose or fire hose.

Do's And Don'ts For Cleaning Granite Countertops

It is important to understand that the off the shelves household cleaners are not the solution. You will need specialty cleaners for marble and granite and make no doubt about it. If not, you will be risking some very expensive clean-up work.

Do clean your kitchen countertops regularly with a marble granite cleaner, full strength in areas adjacent to where cooking and eating occurs. You can dilute our marble granite cleaners 1:1 with water for less demanding situations such as vanity tops and marble and granite which are far away from cooking and eating areas.

Don't let spills sit too long on the surface of your marble or granite countertop. Clean spills up by simply blotting the spill as soon as possible.

Treating Dried Up Spills On Marble Granite Countertops

Don't even think about using any green or brown scouring pad. The silicon carbide grits in them with etch and scratch the toughest marble and granite. As another option you can safely use the sponges lines with a silvery net, or other plastic scouring pads.

Remember it is important to spray the marble granite countertop cleaner and let it sit for a few minutes to moisten and soften the soil before scrubbing.
